Welcome to the serene embrace of the Fukuurajima Island Teahouse, a charming cafe nestled in the stunning Matsushima area of Miyagi, Japan. This delightful establishment isn't just a stop for refreshments; it's a chance to pause and soak in the picturesque views that surround you, offering a unique blend of tranquility and cultural richness.

As you approach the teahouse, the first thing you'll notice is its inviting atmosphere, characterized by a calm ambiance that beckons you to relax. The facade exudes rustic charm, and the interior reflects traditional Japanese aesthetics, making it the perfect spot to unwind after exploring the beautiful Fukuurajima Island.

One of the highlights of your experience here will be the opportunity to savor a selection of beverages that speak to Japan's rich tea culture. Although the teahouse faced a temporary shortage of unsweetened matcha, as shared by a visiting customer, there are still plenty of delightful alternatives to choose from. Perhaps you’ll find joy in their refreshing cold brew drinks or indulge in one of their tasty ice cream options, as noted by Asena Hazal in her glowing review. Even if tea isn't your usual indulgence, the Fukuurajima Island Teahouse might just convert you with its offerings—just ask Shruti Tonk, who shared how the delicious matcha opened her eyes to the world of flavors that tea can offer.

What makes this location truly special is the heartwarming service provided by the two elderly ladies who run the café. Their warmth and hospitality will make you feel like part of the family, ensuring that your visit is as comforting as a warm cup of tea on a chilly day. As noted by Mara Ravasi, the cafe offers not just beverages but also unique souvenirs like the daruma omikuji—little wooden dolls that hold wishes and prophecies, perfect for taking a piece of your visit home with you.

Visitors have remarked that this small yet cozy cafe is an essential part of the Fukuurajima experience. It’s not just about quenching your thirst; it's about creating memories. Whether you're savoring a perfectly brewed cup of coffee served in a quaint porcelain cup—as Piano girl described—or enjoying a moment of quiet reflection amid the hustle of travel, the Fukuurajima Island Teahouse provides a delightful interlude filled with genuine Japanese hospitality.

Next time you find yourself wandering through Matsushima, don’t miss the chance to stop by this hidden gem. Embrace the opportunity to refresh both your body and soul in a place that celebrates the simplicity and beauty of life.

Nice and calm cafe with a scenic view. Outside of it you can buy a beautiful daruma omikuji, i.e. a horoscope sheet put inside a little wooden doll shaped as a daruma (very nice souvenir).

They didn’t have any unsweetened matcha at the time due to the 2025 matcha shortage, but they offered other drinks and ice cream. The two elderly ladies running the place were so sweet and helpful.

This place made me curious about trying new tea flavors around Japan since I wasn’t into tea before. But thanks to delicious matcha and Ameyu, I see myself becoming a tea lady now.

Small but lovely tea house on the island. We had red bean soup and minced gyutan skewer and both were delicious, light and comforting for the cold weather. Overall, it’s a nice place to chill and take a break before heading back across the bridge.
